Benedict Yu

Born in Singapore and raised in Taichung, Taiwan; Benedict Yu experienced his childhood and adolescence as a Third Culture Kid. Through his practice, Benedict taps into his upbringing and experiences as a third culture individual to unravel and investigate his complex relationship with the status of Home. Are You Coming Home? 回家吧, 孩子 which is Benedict’s first solo exhibition in Singapore, showcases a new series of works that sees him embracing vulnerability as he traverses through homesickness and uncertainty. Using a range of media and techniques, such as oil paint, markers and digital painting – he creates islands for himself. Weaving both personal and researched narratives into his works in hopes of reconceptualizing his mental, emotional and spiritual definition of Home.
