Species of Texts and Spots

[13.04.19 — 07.07.19]
SPRMRKT at Cluny Court

Artist and design lecturer, Joanne Pang finds beauty in unspoken gestures and signs seen across the human and natural world. She translates puddles of water, existing creases on cloth, flickering thoughts and emotions into shape, form and colour. Hence, negotiating between the physical aspect of painting versus the immateriality of thoughts, force and time. With Species of Texts and Spots, Joanne’s abstract images examine the gaps, progressions and degrees of unpredictability in conversations and communication. With each stroke, gash and mark juxtaposing the use of noise with symbols, Joanne continues her exploration into pauses, disruption and the weight of the unspoken such as – words, feelings and gestures. Her spontaneous and rhythmic approach to the density and textures of various materials such as ink, acrylic, graphite, and lipstick invite viewers to partake in a transformational visual journey.
