HDB Homes Of Singapore: The Photo Exhibition
SPRMRKT
HDB Homes Of Singapore is a pictorial journey portraying the diversity, culture, individuality, colours and creativity inside HDB homes.
What started out as a chance meeting and friendly conversation between husband-and-wife duo, Eitaro Ogawa and Tamae Iwasaki, the Japanese artists behind Keyakismos, as well as Tomohisa Miyauchi, a senior lecturer at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore, developed into a collaboration with the latter helping to realise their ideas and passion of publishing a book that showcases the imaginatively created spaces of HDB homes.
Having visited, learned about and documented 118 HDB homes over the course of three years, the trio launched their 700-page photobook at the National Design Centre on 4th March 2017. By showcasing the homes of people of different cultures, generations and backgrounds living in harmony, they provide fresh insight to what may seem as a mundane space to most Singaporeans. Each photograph demonstrates the beauty of everyday life that exists within public housing and captures the ambience of the space in spite of the man or man in action, evoking memories as well as emotions.
For the exhibition at SPRMRKT, Keyakismos and Tomohisa Miyauchi personally selected images from this photobook to be reprinted and exclusively displayed as unique prints for sale.
