HDB Home Of Singapore: The Photo Exhibition Feat. Keyakismos + Tomohisa Miyauchi
HDB: Homes of Singapore is a book project by husband-and-wife duo, Eitaro Ogawa and Tamae Iwasaki of KEYAKISMOS, with architect and senior lecturer at NUS, Tomohisa Miyauchi.
Three years in the making, they have carefully documented the interiors of 118 HDB homes in a 700 page, full-colour photo book to celebrate the art and culture of Singapore homes.
The couple was inspired back in 2008 when they were thinking of purchasing a HDB flat of their own but had reservations due to the ‘rigidity and similarity’ of HDB exteriors. It was not until their friends welcomed them into their own renovated flat that they realised how its interiors could actually reflect so much character and individuality.
Keyakismos and Tomohisa Miyauchi personally selected images from their photobook to be reprinted and exclusively displayed as unique prints for sale. Buyers could make a purchase on the spot and take home their one-of-a-kind prints in a carton box.
Refreshments of the evening also pay homage to Singapore’s heritage with a colloquial twist on the cocktail of the evening, comforting curry samosas commonly found in Malay coffeeshops, laksa in coiled refinery and Chinese style dumplings drenched in vinegar.
Thank you to all who joined us at our small book signing & opening reception. The exhibition will be held at SPRMRKT till 27 June 2017 and we still have a few copies of the photobook available for sale.
To follow the artists’ journey towards conceptualising their book and the process of capturing these photos, read their interview and take a peek at their own HDB flat here.
